When I do shows, particularly looong summer shows, I love chatting to shoppers and hearing their comments. It’s such a great way to get feedback on my designs, and plan what to make more of. It’s a wonderful feeling to overhead shoppers exclaiming:
“OMG these are the geekiest earrings EVER, I have to buy them!”
or
“This would be perfect for my husband, he’s such a geek and impossible to buy for!”
But when I sell through the website, I don’t get so much feedback and it gets me wondering. Why was the 1st record clock I sold online the Milli Vanilli ‘Girl You Know It’s True’? Why not Elvis or The Beatles - you’d think they are more classic? Did that customer have an amusing memory of that song from the 80’s? And today the Rick Astley clock sold. Hmm, was that their wedding song? I’ll never know.
But sometimes I do get feedback and here’s a great one I received this week:
I love your stuff. :)
At the Fringe Fest in Edmonton I bought a pair of the “You Spin Me ‘Round”
Earrings. They are such a hit, everywhere I go I get comments about people
who recognize them and think I’m pretty much the sweetest teenager ever. I
love them because they look really cool. And the pair I bought were yellow
and fun. :)
I want to say thank you! I hope that I can hopefully purchase more of your
stuff, I just think it’s near the neatest thing I’ve ever seen.
That made me smile the rest of the day! It makes me want to e-mail some of the artists who I have bought treasures from in the past.
But this one really made me laugh, I just had to share. The customer had bought a pair of MAC laptop key cufflinks, which I shipped Expedited to reach her in time for a vacation to Germany. I’d included a couple of Worthers Original candy’s in with the order….here’s what she wrote:
The Geekware shipment reached us just in time to accompany us to
Germany where it will delight our very own beloved geek. Thanks also
for your personal note and the recycled business card holder
(brilliant!) with two pieces of candy. You will be amused to know
that my husband initially thought _they_ (the two shiny items) were the
cuff links, but then he’s _not_ the geek . . . ;-)
