The fun world of GEEKWARE

July 7th, 2010 Nicola Posted in Adventures, Earrings, Geekware, Pets, Shows 2 Comments »

Well June just zipped by so fast!  Here’s a summary of how I spent these sunny days in June - a mix of work, holidays and running around outside:

Watching a momma bear and her cubs in Jasper National Park. The cubs climbed a tree and one fell asleep on a branch, while the other kept poking him wanting to play :)

Picking flowers with my neice in England

Check out the GEEKWARE Facebook page for updates on what I’m up to on holidays!

www.geekware.ca is open again and to celebrate I’m giving everyone $5 off their next order!

Simply enter coupon code ‘hey thanks’ in the coupon box at checkout to automatically get $5 off when you spend $20.

I have just got back from a 5 week adventure in Europe and have come back with oodles and oodles of records to turn into clocks.  I will go through the request list I have from your e-mail requests 1st and e-mail you all, and then I’ll gradually post the clocks up on the website.

If there is a record you’d like, for example the song you danced to at your wedding, or your 1st ever concert etc, you can drop me an e-mail at   nicola @ geekware . ca   to see if I have it.

It’s good to be back :)

Store Closure = fun vacation!

January 12th, 2010 Nicola Posted in Adventures No Comments »

www.geekware.ca will be closed from today until February 28th while I’m off on vacation!  I’ll keep you posted on my adventures on the GEEKWARE fan page on Facebook :)

Thanks for keeping GEEKWARE so busy during Christmas!  It was great to meet so many of you at the shows and thanks for ordering from the online store too.  I always like to take a break at this time of year to give me time to dream up new designs and plan for the year ahead.

I have a lot of thinking to do over the next few months.  Whilst I did enjoy trying out the big Christmas shows in Calgary and Red Deer and Fort Mac, it is exhausting to do all the load in and load out and travelling too.  I’d like to focus more on the website this year, and instead of offering all the one-of-a-kind creations at the shows, I’ll photograph them and post them on the site instead.  I’d like that.  It’s also a way to repay you guys for your loyalty.

I’d like to offer more custom options on the site too.  With the cufflinks you can pick the letters you’d like, and I’ve often had requests for custom letters on the necklaces and keychains, so I will add those options.

Let me know what other changes or products you would like to see in 2010.  It would be great to hear your ideas.

GEEKWARE closed during September

Great News! My mum has just received a kidney transplant, after years of dialysis.

I’m off to England tomorrow for a month to help out when she comes home from hospital.

Here’s the most recent picture I have of mum, from May at my wedding:

I have marked all items as ‘Sold Out’ on the website for while I’m away.  I plan on flying back in early October, giving plenty of time for your Christmas shopping.

I’ll try and post a few updates while I’m in England.

We had the most amazing time!  The day went so fast and it was all so much fun!

We got married in the beautiful grounds of a kiwi fruit farm on the West coast of Vancouver Island, near Nanaimo.  Then we chartered a ferry to a Protection Island for our pirate-themed reception, complete with treasure chest cake!

It was perfect :)

Back in February Mr Geekware and I decided to get married on Vancouver Island in May.  It seemed like ages away at the time.  I mean, how hard can it be to plan a wedding in 3 months?

Now it’s only a month away it seems to have crept up on us really quickly!  We went out to the venue on Vancouver Island last weekend and it’s lovely, even better than we expected.  We got the cake ordered, met the chef, ordered flowers, and planned the entire wedding in a weekend!  I’m really looking forward to having everyone out there on a relaxing holiday, that just happens to have our wedding in the middle of it.

See that spot of grass between the kiwi vines and the ocean and mountains?  That’s where we’ll be getting married.  So excited!!

Happy April!

Whew. Another month gone.  It doesn’t seem like 2 seconds ago since I arrived back from England!

I have been working on a new fireplace this week, which started out as a tiny project… and grew bigger! Just chose tile today for the new surround and I’m so excited to tile and grout and get it all finished.  I want it to look ultra modern and the people at the tile shop keep looking at me funny when I ask if I can use things like the stainless steel stair ends around the edge of the hearth.  “I’ve not heard of anyone doing that before” is their usual response to my questions.  I’ll show you a picture when I finish it.

1/2 way through that project, I decided I needed a new TV stand as well. IKEAhacker had some neat ideas, and I thought I would use a bunch of LACK shelves joined together with long threaded rods and nuts from Home Depot. But LACK is hollow! I found a much better solution and finished the TV stand before the fireeplace!!  Pics to follow…

Anyways! I have to say I am looking very forward to April.  We get to finalise our wedding plans on the Easter long weekend and pick a cake and flowers and see the venue for the 1st time.  And I can start planning the garden too. I have big plans for the front yard this year.  Now if only the snow would finally melt away.

April feels like a great time for an adventure.  And new stores carrying GEEKWARE.

GEEKWARE is open!

I’m back from a lovely holiday in England and am pleased to announce that the GEEKWARE store has reopened!

What did I get up to while away?  I hiked along Cheddar Gorge in the mist, got a fab wedding dress, visited with family, changed lots of nappies, painted cupboards, visited Homebase about 12 times, assembled shelves, reorganised wardrobes, put up shelves, hiked up Glastonbury Tor to name a few things :)

I have a lot of shows to apply to this week, and a head full of ideas for new products and designs to test out. I can’t wait to get started!

Any special requests for new products for 2009?

Trip to the UK! GEEKWARE closed till March

January 8th, 2009 Nicola Posted in Adventures, Geekware 4 Comments »

Happy New Year everyone!

In case you didn’t know, I like to take a couple of days off every once in a while.

I’m closing the shop for 2 months to kick back with friends and family over in the UK.

www.GEEKWARE.ca will be closed from January 9 - March 6th.

I have marked everything SOLD OUT while I’m away, so that you don’t end up waiting 2 months for your order to arrive!  It doesn’t mean everything has gone permanently, it was just the easiest way I could figure out to close temporarily.

I do only have one of many of the items you see on the site, so if you see something you’d like, check back in early March and snag it as soon as you see the ’sold out’ note has dissapeared.

Happy Winter to you all. I shall be thinking of my fellow Canadians as I leave this -30C weather and snow behind :)

A postcard from England!

Hello! I’m writing to you from semi-sunny England!

Having a lovely time travelling all over the English countryside. Just got back from a week in the Cotswolds, and a week in Southampton, and tomorrow I’m off to Bedfordshire.

Hope everyone is is happy in internet land. I’ll be back in the studio in about a week and a half, ready to work on the orders that are coming in.

I just found out that www.remnantclothing.com is closing down on March 1st, and everything is 60% off. I love their recycled creations. I don’t know why they are closing, but in any case, it would be rude to not go on a little spending spree in their sale!

Have I missed anything back in Edmonton? Crazy cold weather??
