Having so much Summer fun! I love all the festivals we have here in Edmonton.

This weekend is the Edmonton Folk Music Festival and I’ll be selling lots of new music-related GEEKWARE in the craft tent!  Hope you get chance to drop by and check out the new goodies.

Here’s a special sneak peek at what’s in store….

 Fans

Keep your cool in the summertime with a record album fan!  This is human-powered cooling for a hot hot world! Build your biceps, burn calories and, save the planet while you’re at it :)

Fans

They are all cut and stitched by me and my not-so-happy sewing machine.  It doesn’t like sewing through thick cardboard but it has held up well!

These Cassette Tape Notebooks are the perfect size to pop in your bag.  And you get to show off your ’80’s musical tastes at the same time!

Record Player Cards

I thought the music fans at Folk Fest might like some record player cards too. The record part of the card is made from the insides of a diskette! Good recycling eh?

Rolling Stones Record Clock

And record clocks of course! I’ll be taking all the record clocks off the website for the duration of the show, so that they don’t accidentally sell twice.

Really looking forward to the festival! I’ll be open from 4.30 - 8pm on Friday, 10am - 8pm Saturday and 10am - 7pm Sunday. This weekend: Aug 6, 7, 10. See you there!

Record Clock Sale - save up to $15!

July 28th, 2010 Nicola Posted in Clocks, Records, Shows 1 Comment »

For the 1st time ever, all record clocks are on sale for $25 this week!

Yep, even the Beatles record Clocks and Elvis Clocks, which are regularly $40 and have never been put on sale before!

I’ll be taking all the record clocks to the Edmonton Folk Festival and the Fringe Festival next week (where they always sell out) so this is your last chance to snap up your favourite titles for yourself or shopping ahead for Christmas gifts, at a greatly discounted price.

Next week the record clocks will be *gone* from the website…. “poof”

The fun world of GEEKWARE

Well June just zipped by so fast!  Here’s a summary of how I spent these sunny days in June - a mix of work, holidays and running around outside:

Watching a momma bear and her cubs in Jasper National Park. The cubs climbed a tree and one fell asleep on a branch, while the other kept poking him wanting to play :)

Calgary here we come!

November 24th, 2009 Nicola Posted in Geekware, Shows No Comments »

Hitting the road on Wednesday for the biggest show I’ve ever done and I’m nervous. Do I have enough stock?  What if I run out of bags?  What if the rodeo crowd thinks GEEKWARE is too weird?

I guess it’s too late now, I’ve picked up the rental van and am about to start packing everything in!  Mr GEEKWARE is taking 3 days off work, and we’re hitting the road early Wednesday so that we have most of the day to load into the show and set up the booth.

Other than Fringe, which is outdoors in the middle of Summer, I’ve never done a 4 day show before.  I like that the show runs till 9.30pm every day, so that the evening shoppers can come by after work.

I best get packing, eh?!  If you’re in Calgary, it would be lovely to see you at the show.  Here’s the details:

Our ONLY Edmonton show is this weekend

November 11th, 2009 Nicola Posted in Geekware, Shows 2 Comments »

I’m excited about the show this weekend!  It’ll be a great opportunity to make a start on Christmas shopping, before the craziness of December.   It’s only 43 days until Christmas <eek!>

Over 50 of Edmonton’s local hip designers are going to be at the Transalta Arts Barn from Friday to Sunday this weekend.

 Pizzazz show edmonton 2009

Here’s what the show website says:

Pizzazz strives to encourage consumers to choose one-of-a-kind and functional gifts rather than thoughtless purchases from faceless corporations. The Pizzazz philosophy is one of promotion of local artists, artisans and small businesses at the same time as boosting community spirit by supporting local charities, including:
- Edmonton Food Bank
- Weekend to End Women’s Cancers
- Girl Guides of Canada
- Elizabeth Fry Society Edmonton
- Alpha Rhythmic Gymnastics Club
- Duke and Duchess Animal Rescue
- Grandmothers for a New Generation (GANG)

I love that they are supporting so many causes, while at the same time providing a kick-ass show at an awesome location!

It’s going to be a great show.

Fringe Fun

August 20th, 2009 Nicola Posted in Shows 2 Comments »

We’re half way through Fringe and it’s going really well. The weather is wonderful and I’ve been meeting so many fab people who are raving about GEEKWARE!  Have been making LOTS of custom items the past few days, including custom cufflinks, pins and earrings, while customers go off and catch a play or a busker perforance.

There’s a nice article and photo about me here - thanks Eva!!

Festivals of fun

August 6th, 2009 Nicola Posted in Clocks, Geekware, Mac, Shows 3 Comments »

I love Summer Festivals!  It’s the highlight of Summertime for me, with the tasty foods and just being outdoors soaking in the entertainment.

I’m excited to be vending at 2 back-to-back festivals this month.  InterPLAY is a new one for me, in a new city too. I’m heading to Fort McMurray tomorrow for the 3 day show, and it looks to be a great opportunity to share my GEEKWARE with new customers up North.  According to Google maps it’s an 8 1/2 hour drive north!!! But friends tell me it’s only 5 1/2 which is not so bad…

“The interPLAY Festival is a celebration of the visual and performing arts in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, that attracts over 20,000 visitors each year. It’s a combination of elements from fringe, folk, street performer and visual arts festivals.”

After InterPLAY, I’ll be at the Edmonton Fringe Theatre Festival from August 13-23.

I have a great spot this year, opposite the entrance to the Farmers Market on 83rd Avenue!  Normally these spots are for food vendors, but they’ve switched things up this year and a few select Arts/crafts vendors have been located on the main strip on 83 Ave.

So in addition to an exciting new festival up north, and a fantastic spot at Fringe, I have new products to showcase too!!  They are all packed in the rental van already so I can’t show you a pic, but trust me, you’re going to love them!  To give you a taster, I can tell you there’s exciting new creations in the form of ….. Cassette Tape Clocks, MAC disk clocks, new tie clips and money clips, lots of cassette tape notebooks, record clocks and much more!!

Come early to check out the new items.  They will sell out fast!

Say hello to the robots!  I’ve had a lot of fun creating these guys from bits and pieces of computer junk.  Each comes with an adoption certificate, and they are very much looking forward to arriving in their new homes.    I’ve made these exclusively for the Artwalk Show, which starts today on Whyte Avenue.

 tetris art

I’ve made some larger pieces of geekware art too for Artwalk!  Entitled Invasion and Tetrislicious, they are an ode to the most famour games of all time.

Busy packing up the boxes and getting everything in the car.  I’m testing out lots of new products this Summer at the outdoors shows.  It’s such a great opportunity to connect with customers and find out what kind of stuff you’d all like me to make.

new geekware work

All one-of-a-kind creations, so if you spot anything you’d like, be sure to come by Artwalk early to snag it!

Edmonton Artwalk 2009

Over 300 artists are participating in this year’s 14th Annual Whyte Avenue Art Walk. The avenue promises to be full of art-making and art-sharing.

When: Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12, 2009

Where: I’ll be located outside Fuss Cupcakes, next to Funky Pickle Pizza (guess what I’ll be eating all weekend…)

On Sunday, Whyte Ave’s main strip will be closed to vehicles from noon -5pm !  So you can wander right in the road and browse the street fair and Artwalk, pollution-free. There will also be a fashion show and live music from the stage set up right in the centre of Whyte!

Handmade Mafia Show - April 4th

March 31st, 2009 Nicola Posted in Shows 3 Comments »

Handmade Mafia

Very excited about this show!  Edmonton really needs a monthly indie craft show, and this looks to be a great location too, right by the Farmers Market. Check out the Facebook event page for info on the other hip local designers that will be there.

I’ll be at The Savoy, next to Army and Navy, so come by and say hello on Saturday!  If you bring an old keyboard for me to recycle, you get $3 off your purchase too :)

YAY!  E-mail me before Saturday if you’d like anything custom, such as keyboard cufflinks or MAC giftware and I’ll have it ready for pick up at the show.
